Vintage Jaggery was not born in a boardroom. It started with a simple, uncomfortable question inside our own family: why did the jaggery we bought from the market look so different — so unnaturally bright and uniformly golden — from the deep amber, faintly smoky jaggery our grandparents used to bring home from the village kolhu?
The answer, once we looked into it, was chemicals. Much of the jaggery sold today is cleared and bleached with agents like sodium hydrosulphite to make it look more appealing on a shelf, at the cost of the very minerals and natural character that make jaggery worth choosing over refined sugar in the first place. We decided we would rather sell less, and sell it honestly.
So we went back to the source: small sugarcane farms, open-kettle boiling, and a process that hasn't changed much since it was first passed down to us. Vintage Jaggery is the result — a brand built to prove that "traditional" and "professional" are not opposites.
We believe food should do more than taste good — it should not work against the body that eats it. Jaggery, made properly, carries iron, potassium, magnesium and B-vitamins that are simply stripped out of refined white sugar during processing. Made improperly, with chemical clarifiers and shortcuts, it loses much of that advantage and can even introduce residues that have no place in a family's food.
That belief shapes every decision we make: which cane we buy, how long we let the juice boil, and how much we're willing to compromise on appearance for the sake of purity. It also shapes what we won't do — we won't rush a boil, we won't add colour to make a batch look more "premium," and we won't call something chemical-free unless we can stand behind that claim completely.
What started as jaggery made for our own family and a handful of neighbours has grown into a proper processing unit, still run on the same open-kettle principles but now able to serve households, sweet shops and retailers across the region. We work directly with a small network of sugarcane farmers, so we control quality from the field through to the final cube.
We've kept the parts of the process that matter — the slow boil, the hand-cutting, the complete absence of chemical clarifiers — and professionalised everything around it: hygienic handling, proper packaging, batch tracking, and a website where you can order with the same confidence you'd have buying from a trusted local shop.
See Our Manufacturing ProcessTo make chemical-free jaggery an easy, everyday choice for Indian households, not a niche or premium indulgence.
To become a name Indian families associate directly with honest, traditional sweeteners made without shortcuts.
Every batch we sell is free of bleaching agents and chemical clarifiers — verifiable, traceable, and made the way we'd feed our own family.
